Connecticut DWI Legal Information

A driver can be charged with an offence of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in the state of Connecticut. This offence is also known as Driving while Intoxicated (DWI).

The Connecticut's Implied Consent law states that drivers who are driving a vehicle in the Connecticut state, is bound to allow a test to determine their blood alcohol concentration (BAC). The law enforcement staff has been provided with a Intoxilyzer 5000EN machine through which this test shall be administered. In case a driver’s BAC is found 0.08 or above, he or she shall be considered under the influence of drugs or alcohol and would be legally dealt with. But, if the age of the driver is less than 21 years, the driver shall be considered to be under the influence of alcohol and shall be charged with the Connecticut laws.

Impaired driving condition due to the effects of drugs or alcohol is a criminal offense in this state. The BAC is conditional. Even if the BAC is found to be below prescribed limit, a driver may still be charged if he is found incapable of safe driving condition.

A driver who is found to have committed an offence under DUI shall have his or her license suspended automatically unless a request is made for obtaining restoration of the license or privilege to drive in Connecticut. The offender shall face two legal forums:
